The Chelan Pride Safe Space Pledge
I pledge my commitment to creating a safe, affirming environment for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, disability, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of human identity. I pledge to foster a culture of belonging, maintain a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or hate, and proactively support the safety and dignity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and all marginalized individuals. I hold myself and my team accountable for our shared responsibility in building a more just, equitable, and inclusive society for all.
What This Looks Like in Practice
Being a designated Chelan Pride Safe Space is an active commitment.
In practice, this means:
Respecting Identity: Using the names and pronouns provided by an individual, without assumption or correction.
Active Intervention: If a staff member or patron experiences harassment, bigotry, or discrimination, the business takes immediate steps to intervene, prioritize the safety of the individual, and hold the aggressor accountable.
Inclusive Environments: Ensuring that restroom access, service, and public-facing interactions are provided with dignity, free from judgment or exclusion based on appearance or identity.
Continual Learning: Remaining open to feedback from the community and utilizing Chelan Pride resources to ensure staff are prepared to support a diverse range of patrons.
Visible Support: Keeping the Chelan Pride decal clean and visible as a standing invitation for all community members to enter without fear.
